From 2023 to 2026 the average went from 10.26 to 12.42, and the top 1% line from 21 to 24, the highest so far. More students now prepare for the test.

How to read the cutoffs
- Each number is the lowest score that got the award that year. The MAA (Mathematical Association of America), which runs the AMC 8, sets the lines after the test, from that year's scores, so nobody knows them ahead of time.
- One point for each right answer, out of 25. A wrong answer or a blank costs nothing, so it pays to answer every question.
- The Achievement Roll is for students in grade 6 or below who score 15 or more. That line does not move.
- Students in grade 8 or below take the AMC 8 through a school or another site that hosts it. Families can't register on their own, so ask the school early.
Where the numbers come from
2020 to 2026: the cutoffs and averages published by Think Academy, Gonit and Ace Academy, which agree with each other (Areteem's table agrees for 2022 to 2024). 2003 to 2019: the cutoffs as listed on the AoPS Wiki's AMC historical results; 2018 and 2019 are confirmed by a second source, the other years are not. The 2019 average is from Think Academy alone. Award lines before 2003 are not in these sources. Some tables online give 22 and 19 for 2018 to 2020, or 22 and 18 for 2024 to 2026; those do not match the sources above. The MAA sends the official figures to schools.
